How much will a tattoo cost?

Ali's rate is $200 per hour with a minimum of $200. A $100-$200 deposit is required and goes toward the cost of the tattoo session.

What is the deposit and cancellation policy?

Deposits and fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to other artists. The deposit is forfeited if a client does not show up or fails to give at least 48 hours notice to reschedule.

Can I see my tattoo design before my appointment?

Sometimes a rough sketch is sent in advance, but usually the design isn't drawn until a few days before the appointment. Ali always allows time for reasonable changes at the start of the session.

What payment methods are accepted?

Cash is preferred. Venmo and credit card are also accepted; credit card payments carry a 3% fee.

How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

Bring a photo ID, water, a snack, and anything to help you feel comfortable. Wear comfy, dark-colored clothing in case of ink drops, stay hydrated, eat a decent meal beforehand, and avoid alcohol for at least a day prior.

How do I take care of a new tattoo?

Keep the bandage on for at least 4 hours or overnight, then wash gently with warm soapy water. Once a scab forms around day 4-5, apply a light, breathable lotion once a day for about 2 weeks. Avoid swimming, soaking, and direct sunlight, and never use aloe or Neosporin.

Hi, I'm Ali — a tattoo artist working out of New Rose Tattoo in Portland, Oregon.

I moved to Portland from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and before that Oakland, CA. I love tattooing animals, skulls, plants, macabre and occult imagery, Victorian hands, ornamental jewelry, and anything that could be found in an odditorium. My background is in fine art and American traditional tattooing, and I enjoy creating both flash and custom designs in either color or black and grey.

Other than drawing, I love introducing you to my dog, riding my bike, and exploring cemeteries.

Deposits and fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to other artists. Your deposit is subject to forfeiture if you do not show up for your appointment or do not let me know 48 hours before your appointment if you need to reschedule.

I understand life happens, so please communicate with me as soon as plans change or if you are not feeling physically well enough to attend your appointment.

What projects are you interested in doing?

Animals, skulls, bones, bugs/insects, ornamental jewelry, Victorian hands, lady heads, florals, foliage, botanicals, mushrooms, macabre, occult, and fantasy.

Can I see my design before my appointment?

Sometimes I will send a rough sketch in advance, but usually I don't start drawing your design until a few days before your appointment. I always allow time for reasonable changes at the beginning of the session.

I understand a lot of trust goes into the process of requesting a custom design, and I'm happy to work with you if you have concerns about anything.

How can I prepare for the appointment?

Bring your photo ID, water, a snack, and anything else to help you feel comfortable (headphones, a book, iPad, hoodie, stuffed animal, etc). Wear comfy clothes, preferably in dark colors in case of any ink drops.

Drink plenty of water and eat a decent meal before your appointment. Do not drink alcohol for at least a day before your appointment. Sugary snacks are often helpful during the tattoo process as a distraction, as well as preventing you from feeling light-headed.

Aftercare

Keep the bandage on for a minimum of 4 hours, or overnight. Once you remove it, wash immediately with warm soapy water and pat dry — never a washcloth or anything abrasive. Use Cetaphil or another mild soap such as Dr. Bronner's, and continue washing the tattoo once daily.

Healing Steps

Bandage on for 4+ hours, or overnight.
Wash gently with warm soapy water, pat dry.
Around day 4–5, a scab forms — start applying lotion.
Pea-size amount of light, breathable lotion (Cetaphil, Aquaphor, or coconut oil) once daily, rubbed in fully.
Continue for 2 weeks, or until the scab is gone and skin feels smooth.
Always handle your tattoo with clean hands, and wear loose-fitting clothing.

Avoid

Never re-bandage after the initial bandage is removed.
No aloe, Neosporin, etc. — they make the skin heal too fast.
No swimming, sauna, or soaking (showers are fine).
No direct sunlight while healing.

Once healed, preserve your piece of art and always protect your tattoo with SPF 30+ sunscreen.
